Linked accounts

Updated this week

Linked Accounts allow a user to quickly switch to another account without logging out and back in. This is useful when someone needs to work in multiple roles or access different environments.

Instead of managing multiple logins or security codes, users can switch between accounts directly from the LawVu Draft interface.

Why linked accounts are useful

  • Administrative tasks – A user can work in their personal account and temporarily switch to an administrator account when needed.

  • Backup administrators – Multiple team members can access an administrator account when someone is unavailable.

  • Working across teams or offices – Users can switch between accounts connected to different databases or offices.

  • Shared environments – Users can access shared accounts used for joint projects.

How it works

An administrator links one user account to another. Once linked, the user will see a “Switch to linked account” option when going to their profile / Logins

From there, they can switch to the linked account and continue working in that environment.

If the linked account is an administrator account, the user can also type the name of another user managed by that administrator and switch to that user.

The search box only appears when the target account is an administrator account. If a regular user can switch to another regular user, the search box will not appear.

Creating a linked account

Linked accounts can only be created by an administrator.

To create one:

1. Go to Administration > Linked Accounts.

2. Click New linked account.

3. A new row will appear where you can select:

  • Source user – the user who will be allowed to switch accounts.

  • Target user – the account they can switch to.

Example: If Robbert Jacobs should be able to switch to the administrator account, select Robbert as the source user and the administrator as the target user.

4. One additional step is required.

The source user must also have the “Switch to linked account” permission enabled. Otherwise, the switching option will not appear in the menu.

Additional details

Linked account sessions have an expiration time:

  • If SSO is not enabled, the session expires after 4 hours.

  • If SSO is enabled, the expiration follows the SSO session settings.
