Overview
LawVu Lens is an AI-powered contract analysis tool that helps legal teams uncover insights, identify risks, and make faster decisions.
By automatically identifying and extracting key clauses, obligations, and metadata across your contract library, Lens makes large volumes of agreements instantly searchable, analyzable, and actionable - without manual review.
With Lens, you can:
Find specific clauses, obligations, and terms beyond keyword search.
Identify trends, gaps, and risks across your contract portfolio.
Support audits, compliance reviews, M&A due diligence, and other strategic initiatives.
Enable Lens
To enable Lens on your account an Administrator needs to:
Head to Settings / Contract Management / LawVu Lens
Read, and accept the Terms and Conditions.
Configure Lens
Lens includes configurable Obligations Categories that allow organisations to analyse contracts for specific business scenarios: such as change of control, force majeure, data breach obligations, or price escalation clauses etc.
You can select an obligation category from a list of templates provided by LawVu. Once you select a template, you can run it as is, or edit it to meet your needs.
Template updates during Early Access
LawVu may update templates during the Early Access program to improve their quality. We’ll notify Early Access users when changes are made.
New categories created from the template library will always use the latest version. Categories you’re already using will not update automatically. To use an updated template, recreate the category from Select category.
Administrators can also create their own categories to meet unique business requirements.

Create an obligation category
1. To create your own Obligation Category, near Select Obligation Categories, click on the + icon:
2. Then, enter a name for the category and a description:

4. Configure attributes
Attributes define the information Lens extracts from each contract. For every attribute you create:
Enter a descriptive Name.
Write an AI prompt that instructs Lens what information to extract.
If you like, you can define Standardised Values to ensure results are consistent across all contracts.
Assign colours to highlight the significance or risk level of each value within the Lens grid.

Validate your configuration
After configuring your attributes, run a Sample Extraction against a small set of contracts to verify the results.
When the extraction is complete, review the Lens grid to confirm:
The prompts return the expected information.
Standardized values have been applied correctly.
Color coding accurately highlights higher-risk results.
The extracted data is useful and easy to interpret.
If necessary, return to the category settings to update prompts, modify standardized values, or adjust color coding. Colour changes are reflected immediately in the grid. For any other changes, you can rerun your Sample Extraction to check the outputs.
If you add new attributes - for example, a Notice Period field after stakeholder feedback - simply save the changes and rerun the sample extraction to populate the additional data.
Once you're satisfied with the sample results, the category is ready to be used across your contract repository, allowing Lens to extract and analyse the configured obligations consistently across all applicable contracts.
Run a sample
To start:
Click Select contracts
Optionally select a contract type to limit the scope.
2. Search for contracts using the search bar and select up to 25 contracts.
3. Click Run Sample to begin processing.
After approximately 6 minutes, the extracted data will be displayed in a high-performance grid.
Navigating the results
You can access the results from the Lens settings page or via the Lens icon in the left-hand navigation under Contracts.
The Lens grid provides a centralised view of all extracted clauses, metadata, and insights for each contract.
💡 Tip: The grid is divided into two sections: Contract Information on the left and Obligation Details on the right.
A. Contract Information
The columns on the left provide context about each contract, including:
The parties to the agreement
The governing authority or jurisdiction
Contract priority and materiality
This information helps you understand the broader context of the obligations identified by Lens. Much of it may already be familiar from your contract forms or AI extraction configuration.
B. Obligation Details
As you scroll to the right, you'll see the obligation-specific columns populated from the Data Protection and Confidentiality category, beginning with Personal Data Breach Notification.
For certain obligations, Lens maps contract language to standardized values, making it easier to compare, filter, and sort contracts at scale.
For example, the Notification Timeline field may display values such as:
Immediate
24 hours
48 hours
72 hours
As soon as practicable
Not Found
Unclear
Not Found means Lens could not identify a relevant provision in the contract.
Unclear means Lens found potentially conflicting or ambiguous language and could not confidently map it to a predefined value.
Example Use Case
Imagine a scenario where a new privacy requirement is introduced in the UK and APAC. Your team needs to identify all contracts with confidentiality obligations that may not meet the new standard.
Traditionally, this would require opening and reading each agreement to locate relevant rights, definitions, or restrictions - a process that could take days or weeks.
Lens streamlines this entirely. By selecting the clause groups you want to analyze, the grid instantly displays only the relevant obligations, allowing your team to filter, compare, and interpret contract data efficiently.

Working with the Lens grid
Lens lets you tailor the grid to show only the information relevant to your review.
To customize your view:
Select the Columns icon on the right side of the screen.
Deselect all current options.
Choose the clause groups you want to display (e.g., confidentiality obligations, definition of confidential information, governing law).
The grid updates instantly, showing only the selected information in a clean, focused layout.
Applying filters to narrow results further
Lens includes powerful filtering tools that help you refine results with precision:
Column-level filters: Apply filters to a specific column for more precise queries - for example, filtering the Governing Law column by “contains UK or Contains APAC" to identify NDAs affected by new state requirements.
Advanced filter panel: Build complex search logic using AND / OR rules in the side panel. This allows you to combine multiple criteria for deeper, more targeted searches.
Viewing and verifying extractions
Lens makes it simple to review and confirm extracted text:
Click any cell to expand and view the full clause directly in the grid.
Use “Expand rows” to open all rows at once, making it easy to compare clause language across multiple contracts.
Hover over a cell to copy the extracted text instantly.
Select the eye icon to open the source contract and view the clause in its original context for verification.
Exporting data
All extracted data from the Lens grid can be exported to Excel for further analysis, reporting, or cross-team collaboration.
Any LawVu user can export extracted data from the Lens grid to Excel for further analysis, reporting, or cross-team collaboration. The export will include only the contracts that the user has permission to access.
If a value cannot be determined, the corresponding Excel cell will display Unclear. If no relevant value is found, it will display Not found.

Is my contract data secure?
Yes. Lens operates within LawVu's existing security environment and follows LawVu's established data handling and security standards. Contract data remains within the LawVu platform and is processed using secure, enterprise-grade AI services.
Why can't I see a verbatim excerpt for a 'Not found' result?
When Lens doesn't find a relevant obligation, there's no specific clause to show. The result reflects that no matching language was detected in the contract.
What file types are supported?
Currently, we support DOCX and PDF files. Citation highlighting is available for PDF files only. We’re working toward supporting all file types for the general release.
What technology is being used?
LawVu Lens uses Azure Document Intelligence and Azure OpenAI models to extract, analyze, and structure information from contracts. It is integrated directly into the LawVu platform and operates within existing LawVu user permissions, workflows, and platform controls.
LawVu follows a security-first approach to AI, including encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, and operational monitoring and governance processes designed to support secure and reliable operation.
LawVu continuously evaluates new AI models and capabilities through a controlled review process that considers security, quality, performance, reliability, and customer impact. New models are adopted only when they meet LawVu standards and deliver clear customer value.
