The new workflow builder allows you to create automated approval workflows to automatically assign approvers to contracts based on specific criteria. For example, you can create workflows that assign finance approvers to high value contracts or department heads to respond to requests from their business unit.
We will be rolling out incremental updates throughout the automated contract approval workflows early access program as soon as the features are available.
In the first release, you will be able to build workflows that use conditional logic based on these 7 standard data fields:
Region
Department
Contract value
3rd party contract
Urgent
Restricted
Potential liability
You can add conditional rules to an existing contract workflow or create a new workflow from scratch. After assigning a workflow to a contract type, contracts of that type will inherit that workflow. Approvers will then be automatically assigned based on the criteria in the workflow.
Whatâs coming soon
We have lots of other exciting features planned which you will get first access to as part of the early access group. These include:
Expanding the logic to meet more complex use cases. You can create workflows that have multiple paths, nested conditions, and assign approvers where the contract value is âbetweenâ certain numbers, for example:
More support for data fields of certain types, e.g. dropdown and lookup fields, checkbox fields.
Support for workflows that have been created using the LawVu Connector for Power Platform.
Approval teams. Allowing you to add a team of approvers to an approval phase, and request approval from multiple teams at the same time to reduce bottlenecks and improve turnaround times.
Key things you need to know
You donât need to do anything to enable the new workflow builder, itâs available to you now
You can access the workflow builder by clicking on Settings > Approval workflows > Contract approvals
Any existing approval workflows will automatically show in the workflow builder
Start building a new workflow by clicking âNew workflowâ or update an existing workflow by selecting it and clicking âEditâ
