You can easily send Excel documents from LawVu into Excel Online for editing. When you finish making edits and close the browser tab, the document will return to LawVu along with all the changes you made. You'll be able to access the previous versions by using the version history of the document.

First, pay attention to the below requirements to get started with the "Edit with Excel Online" function:

  • Document file format

In order to send a document/file to Excel online (Office 365) the file must be a .XLSX format.

Note: an 'XLS' file is an older version of an Excel file and will not work.

  • Office 365 account

You will also need to have an Office 365 account to utilize Excel Online function.

Start by selecting an Excel document in a matter or contract, then click on the ellipsis menu, then choose Edit with Excel Online. You can also choose to edit from the file preview window by choosing Actions / Edit with Excel Online.

A new browser tab will open, and we'll start opening the document with Excel Online (Office 365) - this can take a few moments.

Once the document is open, you'll see a familiar Excel interface where you can make the various edits that you need. You'll see the document periodically save back to LawVu. When you've finished your edits, just check and make sure you see the Saved indicator - then you can close that browser tab.

Once the file has been edited, the preview will take one to five minutes to update. This preview lag is dependent on Microsoft, though performing a refresh can prompt the preview to update.

Though the file preview may be delayed by a few minutes, the version history displayed on the left of the screen will be current and valid.

Note: Any modifications made to the file within 10 minutes of the initial change will be reflected in the latest version saved in LawVu. The reason for this is that Excel considers every edit as a new version, which could potentially lead to multiple new versions and cause confusion. To prevent this, all changes made within 10 minutes are consolidated into a single version.
