Here’s how to decide what to do when you need to update or create contract templates in LawVu.
🔍 Follow the right process
Take a look at the flowchart below. It clearly shows which path to follow based on your specific scenario.

✅ Are you updating an existing contract wizard?
🔹 1. Just changing the wording in existing templates
You may be able to make this change yourself. Please check with LawVu Support if you need access to your coded document.
Now ask yourself:
Is the change just formatting or layout-related?
(e.g. changing fonts, margins, or styles - but not content)
→ Yes: Make the changes directly, then return it to LawVu Support.
Is the text changing significantly, but the logic remains simple?
(e.g. there are no IF statements or conditions - just merge fields)
→ Paste the relevant merge codes into the updated document and send it to LawVu Support. Are you adding or changing IF statements or conditional logic?
→ You’ll need some technical help. Please contact your Customer Success Manager so they can connect you with the right person.Need a quote for support?
→ Highlight your changes and include comments in the document. This helps the team give you an accurate quote for coding assistance.
🔹2. Are you adding a new template to an existing contract type?
This requires a bit more coordination. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager, who will guide you through the process.
📄Are you creating a completely new contract wizard?
Here’s what you’ll need:
A template for automation
The contract type create form
Next, check if you can find the merge codes you need (these are often in the contract type settings or a previously coded document).
If yes: Paste them into your new template and send it to LawVu Support.
If no: Visit the Academy course or Help Centre to learn how to retrieve them.
Self serve wizard updates or new wizards
Self serve (green box in the flow chart): ask the Support team for a copy of an existing coded wizard doc, or send them an update to an existing wizard doc.
💡Tips for preparing your document
File format
Your document must be in .docx
format.
Output format
Wizards can generate in .docx
or .pdf
. If you’d prefer PDF output, let LawVu Support know. Otherwise, we’ll default to .docx
.
Test Mode
If your document has complex logic or is still being reviewed, we can enable Test Mode, which adds a SAMPLE watermark to generated files. Files generated this way won’t count toward your automation bundle.
Active Mode
For simpler documents, we usually publish directly in Active mode. For complex wizards, we’ll switch from Test Mode to Active once the logic is confirmed.
File naming
File names (not contract record names) can be auto-generated using the format type_datetime.docx
or .pdf
.
The date depends on the document’s time zone setting in Formstack. If you need to adjust the timezone, let LawVu Support know.
