Profiles help administrators manage user permissions in LawVu Draft. Instead of configuring permissions for each user individually, you can create profiles with predefined rights and assign them to users.
This allows you to manage permissions centrally and update them easily.
You can create multiple profiles and assign one or more profiles to a user. The user will receive the combined permissions from all assigned profiles.
Example
A typical setup might include:
Base profile – includes the minimum permissions for all users
Curator profile – adds permissions needed by curators
Senior legal expert profile – includes additional permissions for senior lawyers
Tester profile – enables all permissions for testing
If a user is assigned the Base, Senior legal expert, and Tester profiles, they will receive the combined permissions from all three.
Adding or removing members from a profile
Administrators can add or remove members from a profile by going to the Members tab. Select the users and click Add to profile or Remove from profile.
How profiles affect user permissions
When a user has one or more profiles assigned, their individual permissions cannot be edited directly. These settings will appear greyed out, because permissions are controlled by the assigned profiles.
If you need to give a user additional permissions, the recommended approach is to:
Create a new profile with the required permissions.
Assign that profile to the user.
It is also possible to not assign any profile to a user. In that case, permissions can be configured individually for that user.
Default profile for new users
A profile can be marked as the New user default.
When an administrator manually creates a new user, this profile will automatically be assigned.
A common setup is to set the Base profile as the default.
Managing LLM access through profiles
Profiles can also control which LLMs (Large Language Models) users are allowed to access in different LawVu Draft modules.
From the LLMs tab, you can:
Allow specific LLMs for members of the profile
Restrict certain LLMs from being visible to them
See the separate help article on managing LLM access for more information.
On-the-fly default (SSO)
If Single Sign-On (SSO) is enabled for your organization, an additional option called On-the-fly default becomes available.
This setting automatically assigns profiles to users who log in through your organization's authentication system (for example, Microsoft Entra / Azure AD) but do not yet have a LawVu Draft account.
When a user authenticates through SSO:
LawVu Draft automatically creates a user account.
The profile(s) marked as On-the-fly default are assigned to that user.
Any default user groups are also applied.
This allows organizations to automatically provision users without manually creating accounts in LawVu Draft.
