If your organization uses or is looking to use sensitivity labels with encryption for files and emails, please review the limitations and options available below for working with this content in LawVu.

Emails encrypted by sensitivity labels

The Files tab in a matter or contract will display encrypted emails that are either uploaded directly to LawVu or saved via the LawVu for Outlook add-in. As the email content is encrypted, it is not directly visible within LawVu.

To view the encrypted content, the email file can be downloaded and opened in Outlook / appropriate viewer (How do I open a protected message? - Microsoft Support). Alternatively, if shown in the preview window, the “Read this message” button can be used to open the email directly in Outlook on the web.

Details

The following information is visible in LawVu for encrypted emails:

    • Date

  • Threading for a conversation

The following information is not available in LawVu for encrypted emails:

  • Preview: Email content

  • Attachment list & content

Further limitations:

  • In the LawVu for Outlook add-in, the option to save attachments individually is not available. The only attachment listed is the encrypted email itself.

  • LawVu is unable to search within the content of encrypted emails.

Files encrypted by sensitivity labels

The Files tab in a matter or contract will display encrypted files that are either uploaded directly to LawVu, or synced from SharePoint with encryption. The contents of the file is not available within the LawVu file preview. Version history is available, along with some file metadata.

To view the encrypted content, we recommend using LawVu file sync to SharePoint (see below). If this is not an option for your organization, the document can be downloaded and opened in Office / other supported viewers.

When using LawVu file sync to SharePoint

Use of LawVu’s SharePoint file sync integration allows the encrypted file to be directly opened and edited within SharePoint, which automatically syncs back to LawVu when updated.

Use the “Edit in SharePoint” button to open the encrypted document in SharePoint for viewing or editing.
