Whenever you create a matter or contract, it will use 'fields' to store most of the data around that matter.

LawVu ships with a set of default fields that cover most of the common use cases, but we also let you create your own custom fields so you can store data specific to your organisation.

In this article:

The Field Library

The field library stores all of the master fields that are available whenever you create matters. These include LawVu default fields as well as any custom fields that you create.

To access the field library, go to Settings > Field management > Field library settings

The flow of information

  • Fields are created and live in the 'Field library'.

  • Instances of these fields can then be dragged from the Field library and applied to 'Matter types' or 'Contract types'

  • Whenever a new matter or contract is created, it will inherit the fields from its parent Matter/Contract type.

Getting started

The first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with the various LawVu default fields. Then, if you can't find one that suits amongst the default LawVu fields, you can start creating your own.

Note: you can re-label the various default LawVu fields to match your own organisation's terminology. To know more about this, visit the article about LawVu's default fields.
