The LawVu add-in for Gmail

Learn how to quickly save your email data, and create new matters/contracts using Gmail.

The LawVu Gmail add-in is built for anyone who uses Gmail and wants to save important email conversations and attachments directly into LawVu. With the add-in, you can create new matters or contracts straight from your inbox or save and track email chains.

Set your default saving preference

You can choose how emails are saved by default when using the quick save option in LawVu for Gmail.

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Saving preferences.

  3. Under Quick save preference, choose one of the following:

    • Save and track this conversation – saves the email and automatically tracks all future replies in the conversation.

    • Save only this email – saves just the selected email without tracking future replies.

  4. Click Save. Your decision will be used as your default for future saves.

You can change this preference at any time by returning to Saving preferences.

How does this impact your saving process?

Your selected preference changes what the quick save / track button does by default.

Track an email thread against a matter or a contract

Tracking an email conversation ensures that all future replies and forwards to that email will be automatically saved in LawVu.

Tracking can be disabled at any time.

To track a conversation, open the email you want to track and click on the "Track conversation" icon.

You’ll see a confirmation message, and from then on, all replies in that conversation will be automatically saved to the Files tab of the chosen matter or contract.

Advanced tracking options

If you want more control over your tracking preferences:

  • Open the email you want to track.

  • Select a matter or contract from your recent list, search for one, or create a new one.

  • Choose “Save and track this conversation.”

    • You can also choose to:

      • Save only this email, or

      • Save the email and store attachments separately.

The email thread will now continue to automatically update with each new entry into the Files tab of this matter.

A tracked email thread can only be saved into the Files tab of a single matter or contract.

As the email thread is saved into LawVu, every reply or forward you make is saved as the current version of the file.

Note: You can also choose the folder or subfolder where the email conversation will be saved.

A label will update in Gmail on the thread indicating that it is being tracked along with the matter/contract name and LawVu ID. If you wish to discontinue tracking, simply click the Stop tracking option. Once you turn the tracking off, no new replies will be saved in LawVu.


Create a matter or contract starting from an email

You can create matters or contracts directly from the LawVu Gmail add-in.

Select the desired email and click Create new:

Important: After following the above process to create the matter or contract, in order to actually save/track the email you’ll need to return to the Gmail add-in where the list of recent matters/contracts will automatically refresh to reveal your newly created record.

A note about working with contracts

Whenever you want to work with a contract - such as adding one or saving emails to it-make sure you first click the Contracts button in the add-in:
