How to install the LawVu add-in for Gmail

Work directly with LawVu from your existing Gmail email account. Here's how to get it installed.

What is the LawVu add-in for Gmail?

The LawVu Gmail add-in is designed for people who work in Gmail and want to be able to save their email data into LawVu.

LawVu for Gmail enables you to work directly with LawVu from your existing Gmail-based workflow. It streamlines creating and updating legal matters by enabling you to import email content.

With LawVu for Gmail, you can:

  • Create new matters and contracts in LawVu directly from Gmail, seamlessly capturing content and file attachments from a Gmail message.

  • Track and save email threads as files in the 'Files' tab of new or existing matters.



How to install the LawVu for Gmail add-in

Before you can install a Google Workspace Marketplace app, you must verify ownership of your domain.

  1. Access your Google Admin console (at admin.google.com)

  2. Select Admin Install - Installs the app for your entire domain or a specific organizational unit.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Review the data access permissions, terms, and policies. Check the agreement box and click Allow.

  5. Click Done.

Note: Sometimes, it may take up to 24 hours for the app to be available to users.

Troubleshooting

If you receive this error:

Your workspace admin must whitelist the add-in, as it is unavailable in the public store.


Re-authorizing permission to LawVu

To reauthorize permission to LawVu, click on the ellipsis menu and select Reauthorize.

Click on Allow to let LawVu access your Google account for tracking email threads.


Requested permissions

For the LawVu for Gmail integration to function, we request the following Gmail API permissions when installing and using the integration for the first time:

gmail.addons.current.message.metadata

Gives permission to check the labels on messages so we can check for LawVu tracking label

View your email messages when the add-on is running

gmail.addons.current.message.readonly

Gives access to the contents of emails so they can be read and saved to LawVu

Run as a Gmail add-on

mail.addons.execute

Essential for surfacing or integration as an add-on in Gmail

Read, compose and send emails from your Gmail account

gmail.modify

Needed to perform automated capture of ongoing replies and forwards against specific email conversations which the user has “tracked” to LawVu and while they are not actively logged in.

Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications

script.container.ui

Needed to show the login page for LawVu to give the add-on access to the user's LawVu account.

Connect to an external service

script.external_request

Needed to call out the LawVu API from the add-on to save emails and attachments to LawVu matters and contracts and retrieve information and files from LawVu

Allow this application to run when you are not present

script.scriptapp

Needed to perform automated capture of ongoing replies and forwards against specific email conversations which the user has “tracked” to LawVu and while they are not actively logged in.
