We’ve redesigned how you configure Matter types and Contract types to make the process simpler, more intuitive, and easier to maintain over time.
The new grid layout provides:
Clear visibility across all configurations
Field-level setup and structure
A unified way to manage fields without duplication

Switch between views
You can switch between the classic and new experience at any time.
Go to Settings → Matter or Contract Management → Matter or Contract types.
At the top of the page, toggle the“Try the new experience” to open the grid layout.
To return to the old version, toggle the “Switch to classic view" button.
This flexibility lets you explore the new interface while keeping the option to return to the familiar setup.
Unified grid for fields
View and manage all fields for Matter and Contract types in one grid.
No need to configure the same field separately across multiple forms.
Control field visibility
On the Matter or Contract Details tab of a Matter or contract type, you’ll see a dropdown under each form column (Scope, Preview, Create, Completion) for every field.
Use the dropdowns to control visibility for each tab:
Hide - the field is not shown in the form
Required - the field must be completed before the form can be submitted.
Show- the field is shown but it is not mandatory
This gives you full control over which fields are shown and which ones must be filled out, ensuring forms are tailored to your organization’s needs.
Add new fields
You now have three easy ways to add new fields in the grid, so you can easily create and organize them wherever and whenever you need them.
Top right corner - Click Add. The field is added to the bottom of the list.
Inline (between fields) - Insert a field directly between two existing fields.
Bottom of the grid - Add fields from the bottom of the list to quickly keep building in sequence, without scrolling back to the top.
Click Add.
Choose to create either a Custom field or a LawVu field.
This makes it simple to insert new fields at any time, no matter where you are in the grid.
Create new fields and add them on the fly
If you need a field that doesn’t already exist in your Matter or Contract Type, Click Add Field, Select Create New Field and start configuring it.
The new field will be added to your grid immediately.
How can I see where a field is used across different matter and contract types?
While working within a matter type or contract type, click the ellipsis (...) next to a field and select “View field usage.”
This opens a read-only modal that gives you a clear overview of where the selected field is currently used - and where it isn’t - across all matter types and contract types. These insights help you identify where updates may be needed, ensuring consistency and accuracy across your configurations.
From this modal, you can click any matter or contract type name to open it in a new tab, allowing you to make updates easily:
Reorder fields
Reorder fields visually by dragging and dropping.
Multi-select two or more fields to move them together.
Note: Drag-and-drop reordering is disabled while using the search filter.
Preview Matter & Contract Types with the New Preview Panel
Use the Show Preview button to see exactly how your Matter or Contract Type will appear to users. This helps ensure all fields and sections are correctly displayed and ordered.
How to Access the Preview Panel:
While editing a Matter or Contract Type, click the Show Preview button located next to the Add button.
The preview panel will open, displaying the fields and sections based on the tab you're currently viewing (e.g., Contract Details or Create Form).
As you make changes, such as adding or removing fields, reordering them, or updating labels, the preview will update in real time.
Note: Conditional logic is not applied in the Create Form preview. To test conditional logic, you’ll need to create a Matter or Contract.
Batch edits and save
Update multiple settings at once (e.g., reorder fields, edit visibility).
An unsaved changes banner appears when edits are made.
Click Save to commit, or Cancel to discard.
If you leave without saving, a confirmation prompt will prevent accidental data loss.
Search across fields
When working with a long list of fields in the grid, you can use the search bar to quickly find what you need.
👉 Tip: While in search mode, drag-and-drop reordering is disabled.
More options (︙)
Each field in the grid has an Ellipses menu (︙ three dots) that gives you quick access to additional actions. From this menu, you can:
Edit field : update the field’s details and settings
View field usage: gives you an overview of where the selected field is currently used
Copy merge name : copy the merge tag for use in documents or templates.
Copy API name copy the field’s API name for integrations.
Edit API name : change the API name if needed.
Delete field : permanently remove the field.
