LawVu Agentic AI capability

Written by Alina

LawVu natively provides AI powered assistance to legal teams and the business across the whole Legal operating system.

We have four new features available in Beta for a limited time and by invitation.

These include :

  1. The LawVu assistant: available to inhouse legal teams to support their day to day work both from a conversational Q&A and take approved actions.

  2. Custom skills: A powerful tool that allows you to create instructions for how the assistant should approach and respond to various questions.

  3. The legal assistant ( Coming soon): to support business users to interact with legal. This is currently an early version where in house legal teams can switch to the legal assistant mode and see how it would respond to their business.

  4. Workflow builder (Coming soon): An advanced feature that will allow you to create autonomous workflows for the assistant to perform without human intervention.

What the Beta programme entails

The Beta programme is a great opportunity to have a say in the future of the LawVu Legal OS. We are moving rapidly so expect the following from participants:

  • Team Composition: Nominate a small team of 2–3 users, including a lawyer and an org admin or Legal Ops representative.

  • UX Engagement: Participate in at least two one-hour sessions with our UX team to provide structured feedback.

  • Ongoing Feedback: Actively use the thumbs up / thumbs down feedback mechanism within the product.

  • Survey Participation: Complete a short survey to capture broader insights and sentiment attend of each stage.

  • Adoption Approach: Take an “Assistant-first” approach—prioritizing use of the Assistant in relevant workflows to fully evaluate its value.

Continual Improvement

LawVu is continuing to develop these features, including as a response to beta customer feedback. What this means practically

  • Things may change or move around on the screen as we keep making it more intuitive.

  • What you see may be different to what another user at your organization sees if we trial different approaches for the same thing.

  • Responses may vary: AI-generated responses can naturally vary, even when the same question is asked multiple times. During the beta, we're actively refining our AI features, so you may notice greater variation in responses as we make improvements.Additional functionality may be added.

  • You may be invited to trial additional features like the workflow builder when it is ready for Beta.

  • Frequent updates are part of the beta. You'll receive regular improvements and bug fixes throughout the beta. As with any evolving software, some updates may unintentionally introduce new issues, which we'll address as quickly as possible.

We're refining the right balance. Throughout the beta, we may adjust how the AI responds to certain questions as we work with customers to find the right balance between helpfulness and appropriate safeguards. You may notice responses become more or less restrictive over time as these refinements are made.

What won’t change is the way we approach data security, user permissioning and approval guardrails.

Important notes

Approvals

The Assistant will always ask for your approval before creating or updating records. Before any action is taken, you'll be shown a summary of the proposed changes and can choose to approve or cancel them.

For related actions, the Assistant may group approvals together to reduce repetitive prompts. You can still review and cancel individual actions if needed.

The workflow builder will allow you to create multi step workflows that the Assistant can undertake autonomously.

We strongly recommend reviewing all AI-assisted actions before and after approval.

Permissions

The Assistant can only access information and perform actions that your LawVu account already has permission to access. It cannot view, edit, or retrieve records that you do not have permission to access.

In some cases, restricted matters or invoice permissions may affect the information returned by the Assistant.

If you are mimicking a business user using the legal assistant, in some cases you may get access to more information than the business user would due to your extended permissions.

Note: Conversation history is not updated if permissions change. For example, if you discuss a matter and later lose access to it, the original conversation will still remain in your chat history.

Audit and Traceability

All conversations, actions, and approvals are logged for audit purposes. The Assistant may include citations to LawVu data sources, helping you understand where information came from. Activity logs are available in LawVu for 30 days and remain available from LawVu on request.

Conversations with the legal assistant are available to organization administrators to review the performance of the legal assistant.

Batch Action Limits

The Assistant supports batch operations, such as updating matters or approving invoices, but each batch is currently limited to 10 actions.

If a request includes more than 10 actions, it will be split into multiple batches rather than processed as a single operation. For example, if you ask the Assistant to assign you to 30 matters, it will create three batches of 10 and ask you to approve each batch before proceeding.

Accuracy and AI Limitations

The Assistant uses AI and may occasionally return incomplete or incorrect information. It also does not provide legal advice. While LawVu has controls in place to help reduce AI-related risks, you should always review responses and proposed actions before relying on them or approving changes.

Prompt injection

AI models can be manipulated by instructions embedded in content they process. For example, if a user asks the Assistant to summarise a LawVu document that contains a hidden malicious instruction, the Assistant could be tricked into treating that instruction as a legitimate command. This is an industry-wide challenge and not specific to LawVu. LawVu helps mitigate this risk by leveraging Microsoft Azure file threat scanning and requiring human approval for any action of the assistant.

Pricing

Expanding agentic capabilities incur significant infrastructure costs. During the Beta, the Assistant is available for you to explore at no additional cost whilst LawVu is evaluating the most appropriate long term commercial model. We expect this will include usage tracking and consumption-based pricing tiers. We’ll communicate any changes in advance of them taking effect.

Known Issues

As this is a beta, some features have here are several known limitations or issues . For a current list, please refer to the Known Issues documentation for each feature.

If you encounter any additional unexpected behaviour that is not documented, please contact us so we can investigate and address it. Your feedback will help us prioritize fixes and improve the beta experience for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

What technology does LawVu Assistant use?

LawVu Assistant is powered by Microsoft's Agentic Framework and Azure OpenAI technology and is built directly into the LawVu platform. It operates within your existing LawVu permissions and security controls, and LawVu continuously evaluates new AI models to deliver secure, reliable, and high-quality experiences.

Does this allow me to access information I wouldn’t normally access?

No, all our AI/Agentic AI capabilities comply with existing permissioning protecting information from users as it does today.

Do you use my data to train AI?

No, LawVu always maintains strict data privacy. Your data stays in region and is never used for AI training.

Do I need to configure AI to ensure it gives the right answers?

Out of the box Agentic AI will largely follow LawVu system actions (what you can do manually if you click). Advanced capabilities such as custom skills (in beta now) and Workflow builder (coming to beta soon) will allow you to guide the AI how you want it to respond to you and act for you.

Does the Assistant replace the Workspace Intelligence chat?

Yes. LawVu Assistant replaces the Workspace Intelligence (WI) chat and adds new capabilities, including the ability to asnwer questions about and interact with the Spend Management module, as well as take actions within LawVu with user approval.

What is the difference between previous AI features and Agentic AI?

Traditional AI has helped to generate, summarise, search, extract information and answer questions. It follows a simple pattern of Prompt -> response, acting as an advisor that provides information and recommendations for you to review and act onwhen asked.

Agentic AI builds on this by helping to automate repeatable tasks and workflows. Instead of only answering questions, it can plan, coordinate and execute tasks across LawVu, within predefined processes and with appropriate user oversight. It follows a pattern of goal -> reasoning -> Actions -> result, acting more like anactive team member that helps complete work, rather than just answering questions.

Are “tools’, “agents”, “skills”, “workflows” universal terms or are they specific to LawVu?

These are universal, this is common global terminology across agentic AI tools.

How much do these new AI features cost/what plans are they in?

Select customers on our Essentials and Ultimate plans have been invited to participate in the beta programme for no additional cost. We are continuing to evaluate the best commercial model for agentic AI before we make these features generally available. We will provide customers with advance notice and clear guidance ahead of any changes.
