There are three access levels a Legal Service Provider can be engaged with in LawVu: Collaboration, Billing Only, and No Access. This article will focus on the Billing Only access level and its implications for both clients and law firms.

In this article, we will cover the following topics:

What is 'Billing Only' Access?

'Billing Only' access means that the LSP is granted the ability to upload invoices in LawVu without providing any of its users with visibility into any matters and contracts.

By choosing this level, the LSP will not have access to other details or participate in any activities beyond uploading invoices.

They will not have access to:

  • Matter details

  • Matter files

  • Tasks

  • Contracts

  • Members

  • Security

  • Time entries

  • Actions

  • Conversations

Steps to Enable the LSP to Upload Invoices

1. Invite the law firm you want to work with and set its access level to Billing Only in LawVu. For detailed instructions on how to do this, please refer to this article.

If your LSP is already in LawVu, you can change their access level to 'Billing Only.'

2. Once they've accepted the invitation, when you open the Members tab and click the +Add members button, you'll see the firm listed in the dropdown menu. Once you've selected the firm, you'll need to search for and then select the person at the firm who will be uploading invoices, so they are added as a matter member and can upload invoices to it.

Change the Access Level of Your Existing LSPs

You can read this article to learn how to change the access level of your existing LSPs, for example, from 'Collaboration' to 'Billing Only' or vice versa.

Understand the LSP view with 'Billing Only' Access

After you send the email invitation to collaborate and the person you invited accepts, they will be prompted to create login credentials for their LawVu portal (if they don't already have one), which they can then use to access the system.

When they log in, they will see their LSP portal. They can upload invoices against the matters you previously added them to by clicking the Your clients icon > Selecting you as the client > Invoices > + New batch.

This animation demonstrates the entire upload process:

When the need arises, the LSP Organization Administrators at the firm can create user accounts for other members of their firm using the instructions found here. You can watch this process in action in the animation below:
