Tags are labels you can use to help organize your matters, contracts, and files. Assigning tags allows you to customize an organizational structure that suits your team and can be used to group files and matters into a broad data set.
Think of tags as keywords that can be used to simplify categorization and searching. Simply create and assign them as you see fit.
How to create and edit tags
In LawVu, you can tag matters, contracts, files, or knowledge articles.
Matter tags can be created/edited from Organization Settings / Matter Management / Matter tags.
You can also use tags created here to tag contract documents.
File tags can be created/edited from Organization Settings / Settings / File tags.
Article tags can be created/edited from Settings / Knowledge Management / Article tags.
From here, you can also toggle on/off the ability for all users to create a tag.
Note that if the administrator within your organization wishes everyone to use standardized tags, they will likely switch this to 'Off.' This prevents users from creating multiple versions of the same tag (e.g., contract/Contract/contracts, etc.)
To create a new tag, enter it into the box and click 'Add Tag' to proceed.
To edit a tag, simply click on the name, and you'll see the type cursor appear. You can then modify the tag name as desired. Once done, click anywhere else on the screen, and a notification will appear at the top right, confirming that the tag has been updated.
The above steps also apply to creating and editing Files, Articles, and Matter tags.

How to apply tags
Tagging matters
Choose the relevant matter and navigate to the matter info section. There, you will find the Matter Tags box where you can add tags.
As you type, the system will auto-prompt existing tags. Either click on the suggested title or continue typing your own. Once you've completed the task, click outside the box, and at the top right of the screen, you will see a notification that the matter has been updated.
To update a matter tag, simply click the 'x' button to remove the existing tag and then enter the desired tag again.
Tagging contracts
To tag a contract document, locate the tag icon on the right-hand side and click on it to create and apply a new tag.
Existing tags will auto-populate as you type, and you can click to select them.
Tagging files
To tag a file while viewing it, select the tag icon on the right-hand side.
Enter the desired file tag, and if it already exists, it will auto-populate as you type, as shown above.
Once you have entered the tag, a popup will appear to inform you that the file tag has been updated.
To tag a file from the Files tab, hover over the name of the file until the ellipsis menu appears, then select the Tags option.
Tagging knowledge articles
To tag an article, click the Edit button on the article and enter the desired tag in the Tags box. If the tag already exists, this will auto-prompt as you type. You can create new tags as you go.
How to use tags to filter data
The real benefit of tagging is that it makes them easier to find using the global search box at the top of the LawVu page. It also makes it easier to group related information when using your matters and files grid.
To group your matters by tag, click the column selector button in the top right of your matters grid. Select Tags as one of your grid columns by dragging it from left to right and clicking 'Apply.'
With 'Tags' now displayed as one of your columns, use the filter button to tick the desired tag and click 'Filter.'
